The Old Court House
The Old Court House was built in 1874 and was Sarawak’s seat of government, and then its courthouse, until 1973. It sits on the Kuching waterfront, and the clock tower, the belian roof and the colonnades around the courtyard are all original.

- On the waterfront in the old town, opposite the Sarawak River.
- Every Grab driver and taxi in the city knows it by name.
- Parking along the waterfront and at Plaza Merdeka, two minutes’ walk away.
- It fills up in the evening, so a Grab there and back is the easy option.
Good to know
- November evenings are warm and humid, with a fair chance of a short downpour. Most of the reception is under cover.
- The building is from 1874, so there are steps in places and the ground outside is uneven. Tell us on the RSVP form if that’s a problem and we’ll sort it.
- Drinks are on us all evening.
- A country band plays until late.

It was built in 1874, and it was Sarawak’s seat of government and then its courthouse until 1973. The clock tower, the belian roof and the colonnades around the courtyard are all original.
It’s a working heritage site rather than a purpose-built wedding venue, which is why we chose it. The evening should feel more like dinner in a very old house than a function room.
